Violist Siobhan Solberg performs with various chamber, solo, new music, and orchestral groups in the Hudson Valley. She is currently principal viola in the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra and Esopus Musicalia and she has played with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Highland Opera Company, Woodstock Chamber Players, and performed in the Microtonal Festival of New York. She has also played on various indie rock, folk, and jazz albums.
Ms. Solberg has studied the viola with Anastasia Solberg and Marka Gustavsson, and composition with Joan Tower. She has attended master classes internationally with Sidney Curtiss, Bruno Giuranna, and Erich Krueger. Siobhan is a teacher of violin and viola in the traditional and Suzuki methods in the Mid-Hudson Valley.
Born in Germany into a musical family, Ms. Solberg started playing the piano when she was 5. After a short stint on the cello at age 8, she switched to viola at age 12. She is a graduate from Bard College, majoring in music performance and composition, and is a recipient of the Siegel Memorial Prize for Performance and Academic Excellence. When Siobhan is not teaching and performing she enjoys cooking, sailing and Aikido.
